Trading in newer car for older one?

I have a 2008 ford edge se. It has 114000 miles and just below fair condition. It needs cosmetic work but everything else is fine. I want to trade it in because i owe 3900 left on the loan through my bank. I'm paying 250 dollars a month to insure it and now I have to go to court because I got into a little accident. So my rates are going to be even higher if I don't get the points knocked off. I'm seeing on the internet 2008 ford edge se are going anywhere from 5000-10000. I'm planning on moving to arizona, i currently live in michigan. I want sedan but something that can tow up to 1500 pounds and up. I've been looking at this 1999 grand marquis it seems like it will make the trip and will last for a long time. Any suggestions?

Yeah, forget trying to get out of debt by doing this.

Have you bothered to get some insurance quotes in your situation for those other cars? I'll bet that you haven't, and if you had, you would likely find out that your plan won't save you much, if any, money.

Your accident issues will still apply to any car you wish to own and insure.

Yeah, if you think you can trade your car to a dealer for a older cheaper car and not get totally ripped off, you are dreaming. It doesn't work that way.
You will have to sell your car yourself and then buy another car.

You don't get out if debt by trading cars. You get out of debt by paying it off and driving it for years later.

  • Trading in a vehicle? I was just wondering when you can trade a vehicle, I've geen told anytime. Also been told, after a year etc… So when can you trade one in? And if you have to stay with the same dealer like ford to Chevy
  • Is it possible to get a new transmission for an older car, if so, how much would it cost? I'm looking at buying a 2003 Ford Taurus with 85,000 miles on it. No, there are no transmission problems. I'm just thinking that if it were done now, that could add a lot of life onto the vehicle. And it would make sense because my estimate is that a new transmission is less that what this car is worth. The car is 5K.
  • What would my 92 ford ranger be worth trading for? It's a 1993 ford ranger 5 speed, 4 cylinder, 2.3 liter with 390XXX miles on it but it still runs great. Any thoughts of what I could trade this for?
  • Can I drive an older car long distance? I'm planning on buying an older car, either a 1984 Monte Carlo, 1999 Cadillac Eldorado, or a 2000 Ford Ranger and drive either one to Fort Polk from Miami since I'm PCSing there in a month. I was wondering is it a good idea to drive an older vehicle that far even if it is well maintained? Also how hard would it be to find parts and fix a classic car like the Monte Carlo?
